A slice of modern lifestyle in the heart of Nicosia
A transformation in the heart of the city
About 25 years ago, Esperidon Street, where the Deliyard restaurant is located today, seemed unusually quiet in downtown Nicosia and was hardly affected by the surrounding growth. At that time, there were only a few residential buildings there, including a small, independent bakery on the ground floor, which was already considered something special back then.
The open fields have now been replaced by modern office buildings and glass facades, and the bakery has also given way to the Deliyard, which presents itself in a minimalist millennial style. The interior design is reminiscent of a delicatessen boutique, where baked goods, desserts, and poke bowls are displayed behind glass and kept chilled.
Digital innovations and a modern atmosphere
The usually busy restaurant is unusually quiet on this football-filled evening, which is attributed to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Guests select their food via a QR code at the table and pay exclusively by card; cash is not accepted.
A wide variety of dishes to suit different tastes
The Deliyard offers a varied menu that, while not seasonal, features regularly changing dishes. In addition to classic deli items like sandwiches, wraps, and salads, the selection also includes noodle dishes, pasta, chicken schnitzel, and beef burgers.
The menu we sampled included panko-battered prawns as a starter, followed by creamy pesto chicken pasta and soba noodles with prawns for sharing.
The appetizer was crisply baked with a golden-brown crust and subtly seasoned without any excess oil. A sweet and spicy chili sauce was served separately, but the shrimp were also delicious on their own.
The soba noodles were made from buckwheat and garnished with a colorful array of pineapple, carrots, snow peas, microgreens, and pomegranate seeds. The combination with a homemade ponzu sauce gave the dish a fresh, pleasantly light yet satisfying flavor.
The pesto chicken pasta impressed with its fresh basil flavor, and both the pasta and chicken were cooked al dente. The harmonious seasoning ensured that no single element dominated, making the dish a balanced and enjoyable experience.
Reflection of a changing city
The restaurant reflects the transformation that is also noticeable in the city: open spaces have given way to office buildings, traditional bakeries have been replaced by modern delicatessens, and ordering is increasingly done digitally instead of using printed menus. Likewise, cash is no longer the preferred means of payment.
However, the consistency of good food remains, which is evident in the Deliyard.
