A modern taste of Nicosia: The Deliyard on Esperidon Street
A change on Esperidon Street
Twenty-five years ago, Esperidon Street in Nicosia's old town was surrounded by heavy traffic but remained largely untouched by major urban development. One of the few businesses at the time was an independent bakery on the ground floor of a residential building, which has since been replaced by a modern restaurant.
Deliyard – A modern delicatessen
Today, Deliyard is located at Esperidon 17 and its minimalist design, reminiscent of a delicatessen, is a prominent feature of the streetscape. Baked goods, desserts, and poke bowls are displayed prominently in glass cases. Despite the usually bustling atmosphere, the shop was relatively quiet on a Friday evening during the start of the FIFA World Cup.
Digital menu navigation and cashless payment
Orders are placed via a QR code on the table, which provides digital access to the menu. Payment is by card only; cash is not accepted.
Diverse food selection
The menu changes regularly and includes classic deli items like sandwiches, wraps, and salads, as well as other dishes such as noodles, pasta, chicken cutlets, and beef burgers. Appetizers include panko shrimp, which impress with their crispy coating and carefully seasoned flavors. Main courses include creamy pesto chicken pasta and buckwheat soba noodles with fresh vegetables and a homemade ponzu sauce.
Reflection on a changing urban neighborhood
The restaurant reflects the changes in the neighborhood: where fields and a traditional bakery once stood, there are now modern office buildings and contemporary restaurants. While much has changed, the quality of the food remains an essential part of the dining experience.
