Summary
In the case of holiday accommodation with a fixed arrival and departure date, European consumer law applies. no statutory right of withdrawal.Instead, the cancellation policy agreed between you and the owner or landlord applies.
Legal basis
The exception to the right of withdrawal arises from Article 16(l) of Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights (Consumer Rights Directive). In Germany, this regulation is in Section 312g paragraph 2 no. 9 German Civil Code implemented; comparable regulations exist in all EU member states.
The exclusion is justified by the fact that a booking constitutes a binding reservation for a specific, time-bound period. A short-notice cancellation would deprive the owner of the opportunity to rent the vacated accommodation to someone else.
Practical consequences
- The contract becomes legally binding upon receipt of the booking confirmation.
- A 14-day right of withdrawal under EU consumer law does not apply.
- Cancellation of the contract is governed exclusively by the cancellation policy of the respective owner communicated at the time of booking (see booking confirmation and Section 7 of the [terms and conditions]). Terms and Conditions of Arrow United).

Note regarding package holidays
If, in a specific case, a package tour within the meaning of the EU Package Travel Directive (Directive 2015/2302/EU) has been booked, additional rights and obligations apply—in particular, a contractually agreed right of withdrawal against payment of reasonable compensation, as well as a free cancellation in the event of unavoidable, extraordinary circumstances at the destination. If in doubt, please inquire in writing before booking whether a package tour applies.
