Kantara Castle

tourist attraction Karpaz Peninsula

Kantara Castle (Turkish: Kantara Kalesi) is a medieval castle ruin in the Beşparmak Mountains near the mountain village of Kantara on the Karpaz Peninsula in northeastern Cyprus.

Its exact construction date is unknown, but it most likely dates back to the Byzantine period. The castle combines Byzantine and Frankish architectural elements. It fell into disrepair in 1525 and was demolished in 1560. The nearby Kantara Monastery is named after it.
