Sound of Shanghai – European premiere in North Nicosia

Cypriot composer Marios Ioannou Elia will present the European premiere of his audiovisual composition "Sound of Shanghai" at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre in North Nicosia on June 10. The work, which will be screened as part of the Chinese Film Week, explores the artistic transformation of an entire city into music. The composition, the result of extensive research in Shanghai, combines field recordings, urban sounds, and elements of Chinese music. Over 250 musicians and performers participated, including the China National Orchestra. Particularly noteworthy is the integration of scientific data on the artist's brain activity, which was translated into electronic sound textures. The musical narrative encompasses over 90 locations in Shanghai and incorporates elements of Kunqu opera.
