Salamis Ancient City
Salamis is an ancient ruined city near Yeni Boğaziçi, about 6 kilometers north of Famagusta (Gazimağusa). It was located at the mouth of the Pediaios River on a wide bay of the east coast.
Salamis was an Iron Age city-kingdom and an ancient Greek city-state. According to tradition, Teucer, son of Telamon, king of the Greek island of Salamis, founded the city. He was unable to return home after the Trojan War because he had not avenged the death of his brother Ajax. Remains of a theater, baths, and columns can be found directly on the coast.
